The SCA Barista Skills Intermediate course is designed to test more advanced skills and understanding, expected from a competent barista or home enthusiast. 

Successful candidates should be able to dial in a brew recipe, make a full range of drinks with quality and speed, as well as understand the basic requirements for customer service and maintenance.

Course Prerequisite: Barista Skills Foundation are recommended (but not mandatory).

Course Fee: €345 per person (+ €50 SCA enrolment fee + €50 SCA Certification fee)

Course Fee Note: Enrolment fee of €50 fee directly to the SCA & the SCA Certification fee of €50 if you want to complete the certification (details of how to register and pay will be provided once booked)

Course Pass Rate: There is an exam at the end of this course. The course certificate will be issued only if the student passes an online exam with a pass rate of 60%.

Course Description:

Elevate your barista skills with the SCA Barista Skills Intermediate course. This two-day, hands-on course is perfect for those with foundational experience who are eager to enhance their expertise and take on more advanced roles in the coffee industry. Building on the foundational concepts, this immersive experience dives deep into the nuances of coffee, from understanding how variety, origin, and processing influence flavor, to mastering the art of brewing the perfect espresso.

Participants will explore the critical parameters of coffee preparation, including coffee quantity, grind texture, water quality, and shot time, and learn how these elements interact to create the ideal brew recipe. The course also covers advanced drink construction, workflow management, sensory analysis of espresso, and latte art techniques.

Beyond the cup, this course emphasizes essential skills in health and safety, customer service, and basic business practices—ensuring you’re well-rounded and prepared for any barista role. The course concludes with a written exam to assess your theoretical knowledge, followed by a practical exam where you’ll demonstrate your proficiency in grinder calibration, espresso extraction, latte art, and drink construction.
